9:00 Introduction

1. How many of you have been to the library before?

2. Brief overview of the library (Lots of books, types of books, people who can use the library, computers, # of people who work in the library)

3. How much money does it cost to get a library card? (explain how to get a card, show card)

4. Once you have a card what can you do with it?

a. borrow books (How many can you borrow at 1 time)

b. get on the computer if your parents say it’s okay (play games, get on the internet, type up homework assignments, find information, send e-mails)

c. when you get older you can check out movies

d. visit any of the 7 libraries in the county

5. Not everyone in the library has the same job.

a. Library Technicians are the people who fix the books when they get old or yucky.

b. Library pages help put the books back on the shelves and make sure that every book is in the right place.

c. There are people who check out your books and check them back in.

d. Then there are Librarians: plan story times, programs for kids and adults, help people find good books to read, and answer questions. *In fact there’s a desk in the library called the Information Desk and anytime you have a questions about where to find a book or where you can find information on something that’s where you go.

e. Librarians also make sure that only the best books are in the library. Can’t buy every book that’s ever been made so you have to pick the ones you think people will like the best.
